When using black as a basis or a complementary colour feature in any room there are a few basics required to ensure that it does not leave your room feeling dark and dull. Black is very popular and features in many interior finishes. Presented properly it can create a striking tone that offers a luxurious feel to any room.

If using black make sure that you add lots of reflective surfaces. This will help the light bounce throughout the room. The types of surfaces you can use include crystal, as part of your lighting or  ornaments, metallic wall papers and of course, mirrors.

Patterned wallpaper can be striking however it can be a mistake to place items against it that send the whole feature visually disturbing. Items such as headboards and sofas need to be simple allowing the contrast of furniture and wall to promote each other. Any furniture that can incorporate chrome and crystal or velvet littered with diamante provide that added ingredient for that special finish.
